In 2023, VISITFLANDERS conducted a survey in five Flemish art cities: Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Leuven, and Mechelen. The survey aimed to understand residents’ perceptions of tourism. The results showed that approximately 70% of residents in these cities support tourism and want it to remain important. Additionally, nearly 75% of residents take pride in their city and enjoy sharing its offerings with visitors. However, there are also concerns about potential nuisances and crowds. The report, published in March 2024, provides insights into support for tourism, its impact, drivers of support, and future implications.
