The OPENHERITAGE project, funded by the EU Horizon 2020 program, aims to develop sustainable models for managing heritage assets. Running from June 2018 to May 2022, the project emphasizes inclusive governance and community development in the adaptive reuse of heritage sites. By expanding the definition of heritage to include sites of symbolic or practical significance, OPENHERITAGE addresses the challenges and opportunities associated with abandoned or underutilized cultural assets. Key outcomes of the project include the creation of a comprehensive policy overview and a detailed typology, micro-level analyses resulting in 16 case studies (Observatory Cases) on pioneering adaptive reuse, and the integration of macro and micro perspectives through a specially developed database.
