Achieving climate-neutral aviation is projected to be unattainable by 2050. A combination of technologies, including electric propulsion, sustainable fuels, and improved aircraft design, is necessary but insufficient alone. The aviation sector faces long development and approval timelines for new technologies, compounded by the need for drastic measures like taxation to reduce demand. Despite ongoing research, scalable solutions are not expected soon, underscoring the complexity of making aviation environmentally sustainable. (The original piece available only in German)
