The EU Textiles Ecosystem Platform has released its first Report on Stakeholder Pledges, marking an important step in the ecosystem’s transition towards sustainability, innovation, and resilience. Since 2023, organisations from across Europe have submitted their commitments to support the Textiles Ecosystem Transition Pathway. This report provides an overview of the pledges published on the EU Textiles Ecosystem Platform until 15 July 2025.

Key Highlights

  • 79 pledges from 20 organisations across 10 EU Member States and Switzerland have been published.
  • Pledges cover all eight building blocks of the Transition Pathway and address 30 of the 50 specific actions.
  • The largest share of pledges relates to Sustainable Competitiveness (37%), followed by R&I, Techniques and Technological Solutions (20%), and Regulation and Public Governance (15%).
  • Pledges come from a diverse range of stakeholder: Networks and federation (27), large companies (21) and academic research institutions (10). Non-profits, SMEs and industry associations have also contributed pledges.
  • Geographic concentration in Italy and Belgium suggests opportunities for broader Member State engagement, particularly from Northern, Central, and Eastern European countries.
  • Companies leverage existing sustainability reporting to make commitments, while industry associations and NGOs address systemic challenges requiring collective action.

The pledges reflect the diverse nature of the textiles ecosystem, with commitments spanning circularity, sustainability, research, skills development, infrastructure, and strategic autonomy. Organisations represent various segments from apparel and footwear to waste management, business support, and technology and machinery.

Pledges are an essential tool for translating EU strategies into practical action. Sharing them on the platform helps raise awareness, encourages collaboration and recognises the contributions of all stakeholders, particularly SMEs, which play a vital role in the ecosystem’s transformation.

The EU Textiles Ecosystem Platform will continue to collect, validate and publish new pledges, with the aim of expanding participation across Member States and stakeholder groups. Organisations are invited to submit and regularly update their pledges to highlight impactful practices.

Read the full report below for detailed insights and examples of how the textiles ecosystem is advancing towards a more sustainable, competitive, and resilient future.
