“Power-to-steam”: We evaluate new ways of CO2-free steam generation a) Based on energy recovery: We will install heat pumps and steam compressors to use waste heat from chemical plants for steam production. b) Based on renewable resources: powered by renewable sources, our heat pumps will be able to generate these huge amounts of steam electrically and cut millions of tons of CO2 emissions every year. The heat pumps are part of a multi-pronged approach, including also other technologies such as e-boilers and electrified steam turbines to cut our emissions to net zero by 2050. First initiatives will be implemented at our Ludwigshafen site by 2030.
