Sustainable development of outdoor tourism in Denmark

Aim:
To develop outdoor tourism in Denmark in a sustainable way.
The aim of the effort is to implement a more sustainable realization of the potential for outdoor tourism in Denmark with a focus on strategic-physical planning and visitor management in selected natural areas. The effort will disseminate, demonstrate and develop scalable methods for a more sustainable development in interaction with the landscape, nature and the local community.

Actions:
The actions on "Sustainable development of outdoor tourism" are built around three development tracks:
1. Strategic planning of attractive nature and outdoor areas
2. Update of the Action plan for outdoor tourism in Denmark
3. Collection and development of tools and communication for a common "code of conduct" for recreational use of coastal and nature landscapes in Denmark.

Targets/Results:
1) Development of five strategic-physical development plans for sustainable planning in coastal and nature
areas in Denmark – that can serve as pilots for future strategic-physical planning in nature landscapes in
other areas of Denmark.
2) Publishing of an Outdoor action plan with a common set of recommendations for a sustainable
development of outdoor tourism in Denmark.
3) A common “code of conduct” for recreational use of nature landscapes adopted by all major stakeholders
in Denmark.
4) A communication plan for making the “code of conduct” known to the public in a large scale.

Timeline:
1) The five development plans will all be ready for publishing by 31 August 2024.
2) An outdoor action plan will be ready for release by Q1 2024
3) A common code of conduct will be developed ultimo 2023
4) A communication plan for making the code of conduct known to the public will be developed by Q1 2024
