The Policy Brief on Circular Economy, released in March, 2024 by NetZeroCities, offers policy recommendations from 21 Mission Cities to EU decision-makers and national authorities, focusing on circular construction and reducing plastic waste to support the European Green Deal’s climate neutrality goals.
Key insights include Oslo’s aim to cut GHG emissions by 95% by 2030 through zero-emission construction; Helsinki’s Carbon Neutrality Plan targeting emissions from construction materials and heating systems; and Stockholm’s efforts to reduce plastics in the waste stream through sustainable use and recycling. The brief underscores the need for EU-level regulatory frameworks to address these challenges and accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
