The MEDS project, funded by Erasmus+ and spanning from January 2023 to December 2024, addresses the imperative need for training professionals capable of managing innovation in destination management, particularly in the context of developing "smart destinations" for sustainable tourism and territorial development. Drawing inspiration from the European Capitals of Smart Tourism initiative, which advocates for innovative and inclusive solutions in tourism, MEDS aims to educate a new cohort of Destination Managers proficient in key areas such as Accessibility, Sustainability, Digitalization, and Cultural heritage & creativity. By establishing the Meds Academy and equipping managers with the necessary skills, the project seeks to bolster tourism recovery and resilience across European destinations.
