EuroHPC JU signed a procurement contract with Bull on 31 August 2026 to deploy LUMI-AI, a new AI-optimised supercomputer in Kajaani, Finland, expected to deliver a tenfold increase in AI capacity over the current LUMI system when it becomes available to users in 2027.

LUMI-AI will power the LUMI AI Factory, part of a network of 19 AI Factories across Europe offering free, customised AI computing support to SMEs and startups, with manufacturing named as one of three priority sectors alongside health/life sciences and communication technologies and networks. The EUR 387.8 million system, co-funded 50/50 by EuroHPC JU (via the Digital Europe Programme) and the LUMI AI Factory consortium (Finland, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Norway, Poland), is built on next-generation AMD GPUs and will also connect to a new quantum computer, LUMI-IQ, integrating HPC, AI and quantum capabilities on one platform. This is the sixth AI Factory supercomputer procurement EuroHPC JU has signed, following the AI Gigafactories call already covered under Funding calls in an earlier batch.

Companies wanting to explore whether their organisation can access LUMI's computing resources can start with the LUMI "Get Started" guide, which explains the two main access routes: national allocations administered by each LUMI consortium country (Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland), and the EuroHPC-wide quota open to eligible organisations based in an EU Member State or a country associated with the Digital Europe Programme or Horizon Europe. Eligibility and application procedures vary by country and route, so companies are advised to check the specific national page or the EuroHPC-wide criteria listed there before applying.
