The Regulation moves the list of high-risk machinery requiring third-party conformity assessment to Annex I and introduces essential requirements on protection against corruption of control systems, written to work alongside the Cyber Resilience Act. Under a political agreement reached in May 2026 on a wider Digital Omnibus, machinery is being removed from the AI Act's own high-risk product list; AI embedded in machinery will instead be addressed through delegated acts issued under this Regulation, making it the primary safety instrument for AI-driven robotics and autonomous production equipment going forward. CEN and CENELEC continue drafting the harmonised standards needed to support this framework, with a full implementing decision expected by the end of 2026.
