This is the detail that turns the Machinery Regulation from a headline deadline into something a manufacturer can actually plan against: the Commission intends to carry over the vast majority of existing harmonised standards from the Machinery Directive, with a gap analysis focused only on new or updated requirements such as AI-based safety functions, cybersecurity, autonomous behaviour and rollover risk, and standards with gaps will be cited with restrictions rather than rejected outright - a considerably less disruptive path than a wholesale standards rewrite. The group also reviewed progress on the multi-part Guide to the Application of the Machinery Regulation, covering substantial modification and digital documentation, and a Commission-mandated study on machinery accident data that could inform future revisions of the high-risk machinery list. The next MEG meeting is tentatively set for 22 October 2026.
