6th World Forum on Local Economic Development

The 6th World Forum on Local Economic Development (WFLED) in Seville convened 2,500 participants from over 100 countries to address financing challenges for territories, with particular emphasis on Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) mechanisms. This article details the forum's key financing proposals, including the integration of solidarity finance instruments into existing frameworks and ecosystem building approaches that recognize SSE's unique value proposition. It highlights the strategic connection to the upcoming Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), providing valuable insights for local development practitioners, SSE organizations, and policymakers working in the proximity economy. By emphasising territorial financing perspectives and collaborative approaches to resource mobilization, the content directly supports those working to create more inclusive financial systems that respond to community needs rather than extractive profit models.

Financing for the Social and Solidarity Economy

Looking to understand how Social and Solidarity Economy organisations access the funding they need to grow? This short but insightful paper by Gianluca Salvatori and Riccardo Bodini of EURICSE breaks down the unique financing challenges SSEOEs face, why traditional investment tools often fall short, and what alternative mechanisms are emerging to bridge the gap. It also offers a clear, structured overview of financial instruments tailored to the SSE. Definitely worth a read if you're diving into this space!

The Finance Sector and the Social and Solidarity Economy

If you think finance is just about profits, think again. This engaging entry explores how the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) is revolutionising access to finance—especially in underserved communities—by offering long-term, inclusive, and community-rooted alternatives to traditional banking. From African savings circles to European cooperative giants, it traces the evolution and impact of SSE actors in the financial world, making a strong case for their relevance in today’s shifting economic landscape. A rich and thought-provoking read for anyone interested in the future of ethical finance.
