Erdmuthe Klaer is Deputy Secretary General of the European Network of Cities and Regions of the Social Economy (REVES), but also in her private life involved in several social economy-related organisations and community initiatives.
REVES is the European network which promotes partnership between cities/regions and the social & solidarity economy. Social economy is considered, by REVES member cities and regions, as an important cornerstone of local development and co-design of related policies and actions a key of success for the latter.
Their thematic focus would therefore mainly be on urban and rural wellbeing as well as on partnership.
Topics they are interested to discuss with the wider network on the PSE Platform include, for instance:
- New ways and means for local communities to re-appropriate and use urban and rural space (and the role local/regional governments can play here);
- Inter-cooperation between different players of the social economy (including the role of informal community initiatives and their relation to the social economy, on one hand, and local/regional governments, on the other);
- The role of local/regional governments in counteracting “green washing” and “social washing” in a time where “green”, “social” and “participation” are successfully used in marketing strategies of an increasing number of new commercial initiatives (mainly, but not only, in urban areas);
- Third places, Incubators, Clusters of social and environmental innovation, etc. – many interesting initiatives have been set up recently in different cities and regions and stimulate cooperation between social economy organisations and other actors. However – how can they better reach out from these places to the local communities around them and encourage citizens, including most marginalised groups, to get involved?
"We will encourage our members and partners to use the Proximity and Social Economy Platform as a networking space, but also and above all a tool allowing to extend ongoing discussions in working groups and events to a wider community, share their own practices and know-how, and acquire knowledge by learning from the experiences made by others."
