The Greater Paris Metropolis (Métropole du Grand Paris) is a public authority that represents Paris and 129 surrounding cities. Its main responsibilities include economic, social, and cultural development, environmental protection, housing and urban planning, managing aquatic environments, and flood prevention.
City centre policy requires holistic thinking, and our goal is to provide expertise that highlights the interconnectedness of sectors related to city centre revitalisation, particularly when it comes to evaluation methods and policy indicators.
As part of the proximity economy, the Greater Paris Metropolis leads the URBACT IV action planning network Cities@Heart. Since 2018, it has successfully run the "Lively Downtowns" programme, which now includes 101 cities focused on revitalising city centres.
The Metropolis has also initiated various programmes related to the proximity and social economy. These cover areas such as circular construction, third spaces, sustainable logistics, and urban innovation, providing a platform for inspiration and knowledge exchange.
We hope to share knowledge relevant to the French and Parisian metropolitan context with other European organisations benchmarking effective town centre management policies. We are looking for inspiration across Europe to improve our policies, focusing on the theme of ‘urban and rural well-being’
