SPAR Hungary supports domestic small-scale producers to put their goods on the market through its Regional Treasures (Régiók Kincsei) programme which already offers more than 500 products produced by domestic enterprises across a wide range of product categories.
SPAR Hungary launched its Regional Treasures (Régiók Kincsei) programme in 2021 to bring high-quality, artisan and craft products from local small-scale producers to the market. The company has set up centres in six cities (Székesfehérvár, Zalaegerszeg, Hódmezővásárhely, Nyíregyháza, Pécs and Győr) as well as in Budapest, where micro- and small-scale enterprises, producers, craft firms, small wineries and breweries can sell their products in the region. SPAR selects only products made in Hungary, preferably from local ingredients, and it is important that the producer is closely linked to the region and creates real value. This has allowed local partners to continuously supply their high-quality products to the stores within a close radius of kilometres of the regional centre, shortening the supply chain and minimising the environmental impact.
Experience shows that consumers like these unique, typically small-series food products, and SPAR Hungary has created opportunities for businesses to showcase their products not only in small farmers' markets but also to a wider audience as partners of one of Hungary's largest domestic retail chains.
In addition to dairy products, pasta, wine, meat products, jams, and honey, the Regional Treasures product range also features cold-pressed oils, craft beers, compotes, pickles and sweets. SPAR Hungary currently distributes more than 500 products from 100 suppliers in the framework of the programme.
According to the feedback received, the products made using traditional techniques are rather popular. In addition, the participation of small producers and business companies facilitates employment throughout the country and generates jobs for more than 600 people in small regions where larger enterprises are rarely present.
Products in the Regional Treasures programme are marked with the “red apple” logo in hypermarkets and supermarkets.
