The "Clean & Safe" seal, launched by Turismo de Portugal in April 2020, was a voluntary certification program aimed at ensuring tourism businesses adhered to health and safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. Key features included free training, compliance verification, and ongoing audits. Over 22,000 seals were issued, and 43,000 tourism workers trained. The initiative helped rebuild tourist confidence, standardised hygiene practices, and enhanced Portugal's reputation as a safe destination, showcasing the role of health certifications in crisis recovery and safety assurance.
