Ecooo is a Madrid-based cooperative driving a citizen-powered energy transition through renewable energy projects and education. Their model blends economic activism with sustainability, making it possible for individuals to invest in solar energy starting from just €100. Ecooo supports local energy communities, enabling collective self-consumption and boosting energy sovereignty.

A standout initiative is the Escuela de Activismo Económico, which since 2019 has trained over 400 young people in the principles and practices of the social and solidarity economy. Ecooo also manages a fully sustainable event space that demonstrates eco-friendly living in action.

Ecooo’s biggest innovation lies in democratising access to renewable energy through socialised solar investment.

They created a model where anyone—from individuals with limited financial means to organisations—can co-own solar installations starting from just €100, and receive equal returns regardless of the investment amount. This radically lowers the barrier to entry and turns citizens into active participants in the energy system, not just consumers.

What makes it truly innovative is how they blend this financial accessibility with cooperative governance, community empowerment, and education. It's not just about green energy—it's about who controls it and who benefits from it.

By combining grassroots engagement with accessible investment and education, Ecooo has created a scalable model for energy democracy. The initiative has significantly reduced CO₂ emissions and built a strong, participatory community of over 50,000 citizens—proving that inclusive, local action can drive systemic change.
