The European Capital of Smart Tourism is an EU initiative aimed at fostering tourism innovation, sustainability, attractiveness, economic growth, and job creation in European cities. Among the seven countries recognized for the 2025 competition is Lahti (Finland), offering a rich array of outdoor and nature-based tourism experiences. Key initiatives include the Kujala Waste Centre, which supports Lahti’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2025, 500 Mankeli e-bikes, an electric scooter rental service, and the smart CitiCAP bicycle path, all contributing to sustainable mobility. Lahti also focuses on inclusivity and digital innovation, with accessible nature trails and a comprehensive tourism platform.
