The European Capital of Smart Tourism is an EU initiative designed to foster tourism innovation, sustainability, attractiveness, economic growth, and job creation in European cities. Among the seven cities recognized for the 2025 competition is Porto, Portugal. Porto exemplifies smart tourism by integrating sustainability, accessibility, and digitalization with its rich cultural heritage. The city aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and has implemented projects like Asprela+Sustainable and green mobility solutions, which have significantly reduced car usage and prevented 55,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. Porto also focuses on inclusivity, technological enhancements for visitor experiences, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
