The Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission has highlighted a trout farming initiative launched in Rebrișoara, Romania, by a family-run enterprise. Supported by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (2014–2020), the project began in October 2020 with the aim of promoting local development, tourism, and employment through sustainable aquaculture.

The initiative involved the construction of a state-of-the-art trout farm featuring 16 breeding ponds, environmentally friendly infrastructure, and tourist accommodation, including five cottages. Since its launch, the project has created three jobs and supports the annual production of 20 tonnes of trout—from roe to market-ready fish. It has also contributed to the diversification of the local economy through fishing tourism.
