In this project, Bondalti aims to construct a photovoltaic park for self-consumption and install electrochemical batteries that allow the management of surplus renewable energy near its production sites, in Estarreja (Portugal). Bondalti is currently one of the largest individual consumers of electricity in Portugal (> 1.2 million GJ per year). As a manufacturer of products using electrochemical processes (mainly chlorine), Bondalti needs an abundant and reliable supply of electricity for its plant. With the completion of the investments foreseen in this project and assuming 2019 as a reference scenario, Bondalti expects to reach a solar source electricity production capacity of 45,000 MWh/year and an availability of 1,970 MWh/year batteries. In this way, it is expected that it will be possible to stop consuming 46,970 MWh/year of electricity from the grid, which will allow Bondalti to reduce 12,194 t CO2e to its Scope 2 GHG emissions in 2025.
