Bondalti produces three pressure levels of steam (high pressure steam at 24 bar, medium pressure steam at 7.0 bar and low pressure steam at 3.5 bar). The plant generates excess of low-pressure steam that is typically vent to atmosphere resulting in significant energy, water and water treatment chemicals waste. Therefore, the reutilization of this low enthalpy steam can offer an important environmental and economic opportunity. In this project near the Estarreja sites (Portugal), we aim to install a thermocompressor that uses high pressure steam available at the site to entrain the excess low-pressure steam to generate medium pressure steam that will be used as heat source in several process units of the chlor-alkali plant. With the reduction of steem consumption we estimate to reduce around 55m3 of demineralized water per day. With this project we expected to reduce NG (natural gas) consumption up to 460 kNm3 per year and the CO2 emissions up to 3130 tCO2/year. This project will contribute for the company carbon neutral roadmap as this reduction corresponds to around 10% of Bondalti's direct current emissions. The project is entering into the final stage of the construction phase and is expected to enter into commission and start-up phases in April 2024.
