A project started one year ago aiming to develop strains for fermenting such alternative feedstocks. Corbion’s raw material is pure sugar (C-6 sugars) for the last 80 years. As a result of using less pure alternative feedstocks the number of impurities will increase. This project is aimed at developing robust strains that can cope with these impurities. This project runs in parallel with the projects on alternative feedstocks as an enabler. Today, the scale is small and technology readiness is low, Corbion aims to stimulate the development of commercial-scale supply chains of G2 and G3 feedstocks in the coming decade.
