Our Fertilizer Sectoral roadmap was finalised in September and will be launched at our “Decarbonising Fertilizer Production – Pathways to Sustainable Food” event on the 14th of November in Brussels. The objectives of the roadmap were to explore the possible pathways for our industry to reach net-zero and the requirements by industry and policy makers to reach it. Two pathways were explored: a technology neutral pathway, using a combination of hydrogen from electrolysis, biomethane or fossil fuel with carbon capture, and a pathway using only green hydrogen from electrolysis. In the technology neutral pathway GHG emissions would be reduced by 35% in 2030, 68% by 2040 and 100% by 2050. In the green hydrogen scenario GHG reductions will be reduced by 50% in 2030, 75% in 2040 and 100% in 2050. The roadmap will be used on an ongoing basis. Based on this roadmap, each of our members, by 2026, will produce their own masterplan for decarbonisation of their own assets.
