Fibenol OÜ has developed a technology (Sunburst) to fractionate residual and low quality wood fast, effectively and with minimal use of chemicals. The technology allows processing biomass into high-purity lignin and other bio-based chemicals. By enabling the replacement of fossil-based chemicals, Sunburst supports the twin transition. For instance, by producing high-purity lignin through advanced biomass processing, Fibenol enables the substitution of phenol in resins and bitumen in asphalt. These bio-based substitutes reduce carbon emissions an enhance long-term carbon storage. Our target by 2030 is to build an industrial plant, in addition to our pilot plant in Estonia, to meet the needs of EU’s chemical industry.
