In 2023, Eurostat revealed that nearly 719 million guest nights in the European Union (EU) were booked through major online platforms such as Airbnb, Booking.com, Tripadvisor, and Expedia. This followed a record 512 million guest nights in 2019, before the pandemic caused a 47% decline in 2020. Recovery started in 2021, exceeded pre-pandemic levels in 2022, and continued to grow rapidly in 2023, highlighting the increasing importance of these platforms in tourism. For more detailed insights on short-stay accommodation offered through online collaborative economy platforms in Europe, refer to the Eurostat article published in July 2024, with the next update scheduled for July 2025.
