Eurostat reveals that in 2022 tourism was recovering after COVID-19 with 62% of EU residents traveling, but with 75% of trips being domestic.

The Eurostat article on intra-EU tourism flows provides recent statistics on tourism demand within the European Union (EU) and EFTA countries. It reveals that in 2022 62% of EU residents made at least one personal tourism trip, with significant variations between countries. Also, 75% of all trips were domestic, while 25% were to destinations abroad. Out of all countries Spain was the most popular destination, accounting for 22% of all nights spent by international tourists in the EU. Additionally, the article looks into COVID-19 impact, stating that tourism participation increased compared to 2020 and 2021 but remained below pre-pandemic levels.
