Based on the latest data from Statistik Austria, non-resident travelers in Austria generated EUR 23.1 billion in receipts in 2023. Meanwhile, Austrian residents spent EUR 13.9 billion on travel abroad, resulting in net receipts of EUR 9.2 billion. Typically, the highest net receipts from tourism are observed in the first quarter of each year, except for 2021 when the industry was impacted by the pandemic. In the first quarter of 2023, net receipts reached a record high, contributing over EUR 5.8 billion to the economy. For more detailed and historical data, Statistics Austria, the country’s National Statistical Institute (NSI), offers free, automatically updated statistical databases. Users can download Excel files or use the STATcube public database for a deeper exploration of the tourism industry’s various sectors.
