Futerro plans to establish Europe’s first fully integrated Lactic Acid, Lactide and PLA biorefinery in Normandy (France), a new generation of vertically integrated biorefinery in the industrial and port area of Port-Jérôme, located between Rouen and Le Havre along the Seine axis. The facility will have a PLA annual production capacity of 75,000 tons. Beside PLA production, the factory will be designed to produce two platform molecules as well, being lactic acid and lactide, and would also cover the PLA-based materials end-of-life with the implementation of a recycling facility covering both mechanical and chemical recycling technologies. This factory will be the first one of its kind in Europe and globally (by 2027).
