The European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism initiative aims to recognize and reward smaller European destinations that have successfully implemented sustainable tourism practices through green transition strategies. It focuses on destinations that have adopted innovative and effective green practices to enhance sustainability in tourism, specifically targeting smaller cities and regions. The primary objectives include highlighting and promoting the importance of sustainable tourism practices across Europe, facilitating the exchange of best practices among European destinations, and increasing the attractiveness of awarded destinations. In addition, the initiative provides support and guidance to destinations to help them implement and improve their green transition strategies.
