The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 in October, 2022, which changes Directive 2000/31/EC (often referred to as the Digital Services Act) and creates a Single Market for Digital Services. The objective of this regulation is to delineate unambiguous obligations for social media and online platforms, tackle concerns pertaining to illicit content, hate speech, and misinformation, improve transparency via improved monitoring and reporting, and stimulate innovation, expansion, and competitiveness in the EU's internal market.
