The European Commission proposed a Directive on substantiation and communication of explicit environmental claims in March 2023. This initiative aims to ensure consumers receive accurate and transparent information about the environmental impact of products, addressing issues like greenwashing and misleading claims. It supplements existing consumer protection laws, seeking to empower consumers to make informed choices that support the green transition. The Directive aims to enhance market transparency and promote sustainable consumption practices across the EU.
