The Digital Services Act (DSA) and Digital Markets Act (DMA) form a comprehensive regulatory framework introduced by the European Union to address challenges in the digital economy. The DSA focuses on ensuring a safer online environment by regulating digital services such as social media platforms, e-commerce sites, and online intermediaries. It sets out obligations for these platforms to tackle illegal content, enhance transparency in their operations, and safeguard user rights. The act also establishes stricter rules for very large online platforms with over 45 million monthly users, requiring them to abide by more rigorous standards to protect consumers and foster a safer digital space.

The DMA, meanwhile, aims to ensure fair competition by targeting large digital platforms, known as gatekeepers, that dominate the market and have significant control over digital services. This legislation is particularly relevant for platforms that act as intermediaries between businesses and consumers, such as app stores and online marketplaces. The DMA introduces rules to prevent these platforms from abusing their dominant positions, ensuring smaller businesses have equal opportunities to compete, and fostering innovation in the digital economy.

In sectors like tourism, where online platforms play a critical role in connecting businesses with consumers, the DSA and DMA ensure that the digital space operates fairly and transparently. By regulating the conduct of large platforms and promoting safer, more competitive digital environments, these acts support the growth of a more open and innovative digital market across the EU, benefiting both businesses and consumers alike.
