This Directive updates the EU's legislative framework for package and linked travel arrangements to enhance consumer protection, adapt to market changes, and ensure consistency across member states, replacing the previous directive from 1990.

A high standard of uniform consumer protection is intended to be introduced by this regulation with regard to contracts for travel packages and related travel arrangements, taking into account the increasing popularity of online booking.
