The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted Regulation (EU) 2023/1805 on September 13, 2023, aiming to promote the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels in maritime transport. It mandates a gradual reduction in the greenhouse gas intensity of maritime fuels, with specific targets set for 2025 and 2050. In addition, the regulation includes provisions for the use of on-shore power supply for ships at major EU ports starting in 2030.
