The European Commission enacted the Package Travel Directive in 2015 to protect customers who buy bundled travel arrangements and package holidays from tour operators. In addition to self-customized and pre-planned package vacations, it provides insurance for linked travel arrangements, such as purchasing a hotel on one website and a flight on another. Enhancing consumer confidence and promoting ethical travel practices, the Directive ensures cancellation rights, liability, repatriation, and reimbursements.
