Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1926, adopted on 31 May 2017 by the European Parliament and the Council, complements Directive 2010/40/EU by establishing rules for the provision of EU-wide multimodal travel information services (MMTIS). Its objective is to ensure that travel data across various transport modes is accurate, accessible, and interoperable, enabling passengers to plan seamless journeys throughout the EU.
The regulation sets out obligations regarding data sharing, regular updates, and accessibility, affecting transport authorities, operators, and travel information service providers. It plays a key role in advancing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) by fostering collaboration between public and private stakeholders to deliver reliable, real-time travel information.
This initiative forms part of broader EU efforts to enhance infrastructure, connectivity, and digital solutions, supporting the transition to a fully integrated, multimodal, and sustainable transport network across Europe.
The regulation was officially published on 21 October 2017 and entered into force on 10 November 2017.
