Be in Belgrade reports that starting 1 January 2025, public transport in Belgrade, Serbia’s capital city, is free for all its residents. This move makes Belgrade the only city in Europe with a population over 500,000 to offer free public transport. Additionally, Mayor Aleksandar Šapić announced plans to modernise the city's public transport fleet by 2027, replacing all buses, trams, and trolleybuses with new vehicles. These efforts aim to reduce traffic congestion, lower emissions, and promote sustainable mobility in the Serbian capital.
