The European tourism industry is experiencing a robust recovery in the first months of 2024. Based on data from reporting destinations, foreign arrivals have increased by 7.2%, and overnights by 6.5% in the first quarter of the year, surpassing 2019 figures. This positive trend continues from 2023, where foreign arrivals were only 1.2% below 2019 levels, and nights just 0.2% below. The recovery is driven by strong intra-regional travel, particularly from Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands, as well as demand from the US—the most important long-haul source market for Europe.
