KannaLab,
Slovakia
Hello! We are searching to become a partner:
KannaLab s. r. o. – Extended Partner Profile
Strategic Positioning
Vision & Long-Term Impact
KannaLab’s vision is to build a vertically integrated business model that connects sustainable agriculture in Eastern Slovakia with regional bio-based industries. By bridging primary crop production with textile and material innovation in Košice, KannaLab supports a shift toward circular, high-value agriculture in underdeveloped rural areas.
Alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals
KannaLab contributes to the following SDGs:
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
- SDG 13 – Climate Action
- SDG 5 – Gender Equality
Social Innovation
KannaLab promotes gender-inclusive leadership, youth involvement in farming, and new skills development in both agriculture and bio-based processing. This supports local empowerment and long-term economic resilience.
Technology & Bio-based Innovation
Prototype Development
KannaLab is currently working with hemp as a primary crop for fiber extraction. Laboratory trials have been completed in collaboration with Ambra (Italy) and Linnaeus (Germany), focusing on fiber characterization and prototyping.
Intellectual Property
KannaLab is actively exploring IP options tied to fiber transformation processes and their integration into a sustainable business model. The goal is to develop a replicable and potentially licensable 'farm-to-fiber' pipeline.
Technology Partnerships
We are currently seeking additional partners for:
- Fiber extraction and mechanical/chemical processing
- Biorefinery integration or textile lab scale-up
- Environmental validation and LCA analysis
Agricultural Model
Farming System
KannaLab cultivates hemp, buckwheat, wheat, and soya, applying crop rotation to support soil health and biodiversity. While traditional farming methods are currently used, we are developing best-practice cultivation models tailored to hemp in Slovak conditions.
Field Capacity
Our partner fields exceed 100 hectares, enabling meaningful testing at small-pilot scale. All land is situated in rural Eastern Slovakia and supported by local farmer networks.
Farmer Engagement
We currently operate independently and are exploring collaborative farming models for future scale-up.
Role in EU Projects
Preferred Role
KannaLab is seeking to contribute as an implementation and pilot partner under an established consortium. We bring field access, prototyping experience, and cross-sector integration between rural production and regional textile ecosystems.
Replication Potential
We are open to scaling and transferring our model to similar rural regions across Europe. We are also exploring opportunities to develop training, mentoring, and outreach activities related to circular farming models.
Visibility, Networks & Track Record
Previous Experience
While past EU applications were not successful, we have developed internal experience with proposal preparation and now bring a clearer, focused model for participation.
Networks
Member of the Slovak Bioeconomy Cluster and active in developing partnerships with technical and industrial players across Europe.
