Pledge formulated by Bremen Tourism - Visibility of sustainable tourism offers
In order to improve the visibility of sustainable tourism offers and particularly highlight their benefits, Bremen Tourism carries out a variety of measures. The destination website bremen.de features two dedicated websites for planning a sustainable trip to Bremen and for finding sustainable activities in the city.
Progress since initial proposal of the pledge:
Since this pledge was first proposed another website for vegan and vegetarian restaurants was launched.
Moreover, given the fact that the choice of accommodation has a major leverage when it comes to overall sustainability level of a tourism package and its climate effect a fourth website that clearly indicates sustainable accomodation businesses in Bremen was launched - Sustainable Hotels in Bremen. The website displays a short text about the sustainability measures taken in the specific accommodation business. To further improve visibility for certified accommodations, Bremen Tourism has integrated a selection criterion for certified accommodation businesses in their own online portal and booking platform tourism.bremen.eu in 2024. That way validated sustainable offers can be easily selected and be highlighted for customers.
Besides the website, the topic of sustainability is explicitly displayed on the Social Media channels of Bremen Tourism. Channels such as visit.bremen provide information on cycling routes, sustainable events, local manufactories and products, sustainable shopping, UNESCO world heritage as well as green spaces and parks. The team introduced a sustainable Monday where they post content specifically related to sustainability each Monday and save the content in a dedicated sustainability highlight. Content on sustainable and accessible activities in Bremen is planned to be produced continuously in the future.
In terms of printed publications, Bremen Tourism has taken devisive steps to reduce the amount of print publications and the numbers of copies printed. To cater for a variety of targed groups some print publications are still distributed. They are printed on recycling paper and the carbon emissions from the printing process are offsetted. The publications feature the topic of sustainable activities, accomodations or events.
Lastly, to also highlight sustainability information for the MICE sector the Bremen Convention Bureau has set up a website for sustainable meetings in Bremen that provides customers with information about sustainable arrival and transportation in the destination, sustainable meeting locations, sustainable catering, sustainable incentives as well as climate protection.
