CURRENT ACTIONS:
ETC is committed to promoting circularity in tourism services by supporting members as they implement circularity plans at the NTO level following EU recommendations.

We have already begun our own decarbonisation to lead by example in the tourism industry. In 2023, we published our Climate Action Plan and began encouraging our members to do the same. We also initiated the climate action working group, Chapter Earth, to hold ETC to account on climate action matters and collaborate on future strategies that ETC could use to support its members’ climate transitions.

FUTURE ACTIONS:
Our main strategy to empower our members in climate action is to create forums to share best practices, insights and challenges, including by hosting workshops and launching an online information-sharing platform.

We plan to release publications to help NTOs develop their own climate action strategies, including a handbook on measuring emissions and information on green-label certification processes. As part of our members’ climate action plans, we will encourage all our organisations to develop a circularity plan, including goals they can deliver by 2030.

As part of our climate action plan, we have pledged to measure and calculate emissions of the six GHGs covered by the Kyoto Protocol, generated through the activities performed by our secretariat (the Executive Unit), and to propose concrete measures to progressively reduce emissions with the goal of halving emissions by 2030. We will also develop an internal climate policy to reduce our emissions in the following areas: daily operations, travel, events, and marketing activities. Finally, we plan to compensate for our residual emissions through regeneration programmes in our members’ destinations and report publicly on the progress of our interim and long-term targets on an annual basis.

OUTPUT:
Publications to help NTOs develop their own climate action strategies, including a handbook on measuring GHG emissions and information on green-label certifications.
From May 2024 until 2050 we will publish an annual report on our operational emissions and our progress towards our net zero goals.

TIME:
The climate action plan template aims to be published in the third quarter of 2024. The handbook on emissions measuring will be published later in the final part of the year.

Reports on ETC’s emissions will be published yearly from 2024 until at least 2050. Are 2023 emissions will be published in ETC’s annual report in July 2024.
