The France Greeters Federation is a national network of local Greeter organizations that offers French and foreign visitors free, personalized meetings with locals who are passionate about their town or region. These experiences usually take the form of a stroll through the locals' favorite places off the well-known itineraries. These Greeters, enthusiastic volunteers and connoisseurs of their local area, offer visitors an authentic and privileged immersion in local life, off the beaten track. In this way, they contribute to the acceptability of tourists by locals.

Sustainable and inclusive tourism at the heart of the mission
The France Greeters Federation is fully committed to the transition of tourism towards a more sustainable and inclusive model. Greeters promote responsible tourism that respects local communities and the environment. They promote the intangible heritage and cultural riches of the area, while encouraging intercultural exchanges between visitors and locals, and the discovery of local know-how. They welcome all visitors without discrimination of any kind, and any welcoming local can be a Greeter.

Priority actions for 2024-2030
As part of the tourism transition path, the France Greeters Federation has defined several key actions to be developed between 2024 and 2030 with its network of around 70 members across metropolitan France:

Reinforce the training of Greeters in 2024-2025: The aim is to guarantee a constant level of quality in Greeter experiences, to offer Greeters the skills they need to meet the evolving expectations of visitors, to respond to visitors' needs without any discrimintaion and to be in a true intercultural exchange between travelers and inhabitant. This training will result in compliance with a charter of values signed by each Greeter.

Develop new forms of encounters in 2026: Following the elaboration of the charter of values, the Federation is committed to proposing themes based on the individual stories of local people, centered on their passions, experiences and backgrounds, in order to respond to the diversity of tourist requests.

Promoting the development of local tourism: Les Greeters has always been dedicated to local residents, offering them the chance to rediscover their town or region from a new perspective, and to discover their everyday heritage.

To provide members with an innovative tool to meet the challenges facing destinations in 2026 -2027: serving a more human, "slower" form of tourism, with high added value, bringing meaning to visitors' stay. The ambition also goes beyond simply serving Federation members, but to be able to enrich tourist information systems, with data relating to locals, both as "hosts" but also as human, intangible heritage, to be discovered on the spot (portraits, multimedia content...).

The France Greeters Federation is convinced that sustainable and inclusive tourism is the future of the sector. Thanks to its network of Greeters organizations, comprising over 1,500 passionate and committed volunteers, it plays an essential role in promoting an authentic, responsible tourism experience that respects local territories and communities. The priority actions defined for the period 2024-2030 will enable the Federation to strengthen its contribution to the transition of tourism in France, and to promote the unique expertise of Greeters throughout the world. The Federation is the national organization in France of the non-profit International Greeter Association, a Belgian association of Greeter organizations worldwide.
