Queer Destinations was created to create safe spaces around the world by raising employee awareness through our online educational program, Hospitality meets Diversity, a basic course that educates about the history of the LGBTQ+ community, important terms, how to avoid discrimination, case studies and how to best serve them.
The company was born in 2020 in Mexico, and since then more than 50,000 have been trained across the country. We expect to have trained 150,000 people in Europe by 2025, across the 12 countries where we have a presence.
The specific action our organization intends to take is to expand our online educational program, Hospitality meets Diversity, to reach a wider audience and create safe spaces for the LGBTQ+ community globally. We will actively promote and offer the course to tourism companies, destinations, and their employees, encouraging them to participate and complete the training.
Hospitality Meets Diversity consists of an online educational course (It is divided into 6 modules, explained over 50 lessons and is 180 minutes long, with part of reading and video’s) through our e-learning platform, which includes updated statistical data, interviews and real-life case studies. We create a safe environment for training and discussion about the LGBTQ+ community, their consumption habits and how to welcome them in the best possible way.
The measurable results of this action can include: a) Increased enrollment and completion rates of the Hospitality meets Diversity course. b) Improved awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ history, terminology, and issues among employees in the tourism industry. c) Reduction in discrimination and improved experiences for LGBTQ+ travelers.
The target date or frequency of the result availability can be broken down as follows: a) Enrollment and completion rates: We aim to track the number of employees who enroll in the course and successfully complete it. These numbers can be measured on an ongoing basis, with periodic reports available to monitor progress. b) Awareness and understanding: We can conduct pre and post-course surveys to assess the knowledge gained by employees. These surveys can be conducted immediately before and after course completion to capture the impact of the training. c) Reduction in discrimination and improved experiences: This may require more long-term monitoring and feedback collection from LGBTQ+ travelers. We can set milestones to review feedback and testimonials from LGBTQ+ individuals who have visited destinations or engaged with tourism companies that have implemented our program.
Right now, our data shows the following milestones:
Presence in 12 countries
+200 Queer Destinations Committed partners
+50,000 Tourism Professionals trained
6 Main Hospitality Sectors: Acommodation, Restaurants, Tours & Activities, Culture & Tourism Transportation (cars, flights, trains, etc), and Festivals.
4 languages available: English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French (Dutch coming soon)
30 average days to sensitize 100% of the staff
4.9 of 5 stars: Average course satisfaction rate
+180 Media mentions becoming leaders in the sector
Our intention is, by 2025:
· To have a presence in at least 20 countries.
· To have carried out a version of our educational course in at least 8 languages
· To have reached the figure of one million people trained in diversity.
The results would be linked to the operation of our sales department, which works with companies and destinations around the world. In the case of destinations, we include consultancy to the destination on opportunities, consultancy to its tourist office, and 1,000 places for its value chain. In the private sector, our price (which may depend on the country, the context, etc.) depends on the number of places; the number of employees that are trained, and it is mandatory that 100% of the company's value chain take the course.
Overall, we aim to have a significant impact on the travel and tourism industry by promoting diversity, inclusion, and safe spaces for the LGBTQ+ community. Continuous assessment and feedback will help us measure the effectiveness of our program and make necessary adjustments to achieve our goals: to attack discrimination at its roots and do it through education.
LGBTQ+ tourism is a sector that is just beginning to be talked about, but it generates millions of euros a year in spending and has one of the highest annual growth rates.
Our course allows you to bring all this information to destinations and tourism companies that are committed to diversity and inclusion.
