The Digital Cultural Heritage Strategy was published by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport in 2023 as part of the Digital Action Plan Austria and the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility. It aims to assess the current use of digital technologies in cultural heritage, identify potential, and raise awareness across eight key action areas, including strategy development, archiving, communication, research, and legal frameworks. The strategy proposes concrete measures such as training programmes, digitisation plans, digital mediation, and the establishment of a national competence centre. The initiative supports the Austrian government’s 2020–2024 goal to preserve and enhance cultural heritage through digital transformation.
