The EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, part of the Horizon Europe program, aims to support 100 European cities in achieving climate neutrality by 2030. This initiative, a key component of the European Green Deal, recognizes the crucial role of cities in reducing CO2 emissions and improving urban living conditions. Cities are encouraged to develop Climate City Contracts, outlining their plans for achieving climate neutrality across sectors like energy, buildings, waste management, and transport.

Selected cities receive support through the Mission Platform, which provides technical, regulatory, and financial assistance, including from the European Investment Bank. By acting as innovation hubs, these cities will pave the way for others to follow, contributing to the broader goal of climate neutrality by 2050 and enhancing the quality of life for urban residents.
