In July 2024, the European Parliament's Policy Department for Structural and Cohesion Policies published a study on the EU Culture and Creative Sectors Policy, requested by the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT). This study analyzes the challenges and opportunities for the EU's cultural and creative sectors (CCS) from 2024 to 2029, highlighting the EU's role in fostering cooperation among Member States and supporting the CCS. Key initiatives like the New European Agenda for Culture and the European Media Action Plan aim to promote cultural diversity, media pluralism, and support the audiovisual industry. Despite progress, the CCS faces challenges such as the COVID-19 crisis, the war in Ukraine, and structural issues.
The study suggests that future policies should enhance cross-sectoral cooperation, ensure fair working conditions, create safe cultural spaces, and foster cooperative governance to fully realize the CCS's potential in building a sustainable and inclusive Europe.
