The European Commission launched the European Capital & Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism initiative in May 2023 to encourage and recognize innovative and sustainable tourism practices in European cities. This program features two competitions: the European Capital of Smart Tourism and the European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism. For 2024, Dublin, Ireland, has been named the European Capital of Smart Tourism for its strategic smart tourism program, while Grosseto, Italy, has been honored as the European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism for its innovative promotion of its historical sites and coastal areas for slow tourism. These cities serve as exemplary models for other destinations aiming to implement smart and sustainable tourism practices. For more details on the actions taken by these award-winning destinations, please click the link attached for a full overview by the European Commission.
