The European Commission’s Communication (COM(2020) 98) presents a new circular economy Action Plan for a cleaner and more competitive Europe which is a key component of the European Green Deal. It emphasizes the need for acceleration of EU’s transition to a circular economy, which is essential for achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Its main objective is to reduce pressure on natural resources and create sustainable growth and jobs. It focuses on designing sustainable products, reducing waste, and empowering consumers to make informed choices. Additionally, the document emphasizes the importance of waste prevention and management, aiming to reduce waste generation and ensure that waste is treated as a valuable resource. It also highlights the need for innovation and investment to support the transition to a circular economy, and encourages the development of new business models, technologies, and practices that promote circularity.

This Communication promotes the comprehensive action plan which is crucial for making the European economy more sustainable, competitive and resilient.
