The European Commission approved a recommendation in March 2023 with the goal of helping Member States enable their towns and communities to improve urban mobility and lower transportation-related emissions. In order to strengthen the planning and execution of sustainable urban mobility initiatives, the recommendation encourages the establishment of national programmes that are supervised by specialised offices and provide resources like training, capacity building, technical expertise, and financial assistance.
